I never would have thought that if I ever had the chance to be a superhero my name would be Mad Amazing, but it just happened during my first game with Tin Man Games’ Appointment with FEAR – the latest game book in the Fighting Fantasy series available for iPhone and iPad. And while Mad Amazing’s superhero career was extremely short, and he found himself an agent of FEAR after just a few days of playing (and almost no work), the game itself provided a thrilling experience, an experience that I can’t wait to repeat and go further in my next game.
Created as an interactive graphic novel, Appointment with FEAR sends you straight into the bowels of Titan City and challenges you to protect it from the villains lurking in its streets and, most importantly, discover the location of a top secret FEAR reunion and capture its leader, the Titanium Cyborg. It’s not the easiest job of all when you have a pesky crime to fight at the same time and tons of options to do, never knowing which one is better.
These are exactly the choices you have to make, from creating your character, to choosing your particular traits and appearance, to deciding your next moves and actions, that’s the whole mystery of the unknown and “what ifs” that make this game so amazing. Combining it with great writing and impressive artwork, Rendezvous with FEAR gives you an incredibly satisfying experience, one that will bring you back to its virtual pages over and over to try different approaches and choose different routes. No new game will be the same, and that’s a great thing for a title that only costs $ 2.99 on the App Store.
The gameplay is based on an already classic ‘read and touch’ mechanic, in which you decide the next moves at key points in the game. You also collect clues as you play, clues that could and should help you solve. easily various encounters with the bad guys. There are hidden achievements that you unlock as you play, as well as collectible cards that you can collect throughout the game, all of these rewards being nice bonuses to the overall experience.
So if you’re a fan of Steve Jackson’s game books and enjoyed the Fighting Fantasy series as a kid (or, why not, an adult), you’ll surely love the iOS version of Rendezvous with FEAR. . recommends it to every human being on this planet. Don’t choose the name Mad Amazing, please. It’s mine!
There’s a bit of Rendezvous with FEAR gameplay below that you can check out (maybe a few minor spoilers, but these are only the first 12 minutes of the game), but you’d probably be better off heading over there. ‘App Store and download the game for you:
